John Deere Agricultural Equipment is seeking a Staff Engineer - Embedded Software to act as a technical advisor for the Harvesting division for vehicle controller and software issues. In this position, you will:
Maintain Combine Software System Specifications.
Provide technical support for resolution of complex issues that involve vehicle controller logic.
Set and maintain software Enterprise Product Development Process (EPDP) schedules and milestones.
Coordinate the use of the appropriate software development tools (Source code archival, compilers, etc).
Provide technical leadership and work direction for team of 13 onsite software and 7 offsite software resources.
Uphold the Embedded Software Development Process and refine to fit the Worldwide Product Development Center (WWPDC) model.
Act as Harvester Works Representative on John Deere Operating System (JDOS) Advisory Group, CAN taskforce and other enterprise committees related to electrical system design and development.
Provide on site expertise for general issues in embedded development, controls system development, CAN networks, and electro hydraulic systems.
Provide technical software support to marketing, manufacturing, quality, supply management, and Product Verification & Validation (PV&V) organizations.
Manage Factory Runoff & End of Line (EOL) Programming activities for all combine factories.
Support re-use of combine software applications in other harvesting vehicles.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or 8+ years of equivalent experience.
Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, desired.
Required Skills and Experience
Controls background and control system development experience with capability to coordinate technical development of electronic, hydraulic/hydrostatic, and mechanical controls.
Closed loop control system development experience.
Experience in embedded software development in C/C++.
Knowledge of CAN networks and the associated standards (J1939, ISO11783).
Knowledge of the C167/ST10 family of microcontrollers, Tasking Compilers, StarTeam source code repository, DevTrack change tracking system, and other software development tools
Willingness to travel up to 25%, both in the U.S. and Internationally.
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience leading an embedded software development team.
