Position : Senior Brokerage Accountant

The Senior Brokerage Accountant plays a leadership role in the NatCity Accounting Services department and is responsible for ensuring consistent and appropriate accounting policies are applied when processing transactions for the broker dealer and other business units within National City Corporation, preparing financial reports for internal use as well as those furnished to the NatCity's regulators, and establishing efficient and effective internal control processes for ensuring accurate financial results. The Senior Brokerage Accountant interacts with business line and broker-dealer senior management to ensure accounting and reporting needs are met and is responsible for building back-office accounting infrastructure to support new endeavors for the company, while providing ongoing support to existing businesses within NatCity Investments. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the monthly financial close process and preparation of the associated periodic financial reporting packages, ensuring accurate and timely issuance. Summarize significant financial transactions impacting the financial results. Oversee the monthly preparation of NatCity's Focus report filed with FINRA and the SEC and ongoing monitoring of the net capital position of NatCity Investments. Oversee the efficient preparation of monthly account reconcilements. Oversight and management of transactions with National City affiliates. Oversee the cash management and funding operations of the NatCity brokerage subsidiary. Manage relationship with NatCity's securities clearing vendor and monitor and determine the validity of the costs passed through to NatCity. Represent NatCity Accounting Services on various ongoing initiatives for NatCity and its lines of business, which include Public Finance, Investment Banking, Structured Products, Private Client Group, and Retail Brokerage. Other ad hoc functions, as needed. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: The required minimum level of education for the Senior Brokerage Accountant is a bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration or a master's degree or advanced certification in a discipline directly related to the position. A minimum of 5-7 years or more accounting/finance experience is required. Individuals with CPA and FINRA certifications (Series 7, Series 27, etc.) and experience in capital markets and/or retail brokerage businesses are preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Generally, experience will include a minimum of 5 - 7 years of accounting or financial reporting experience in a publicly traded corporation or a public accounting firm serving publicly traded clients. Advanced technical, analytical, planning, organizational, written and oral communication skills. The ability and willingness to work with personnel from other departments to identify and resolve accounting, finance and reporting issues. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Senior Brokerage Accountant ensures that NatCity Investment's financial results are being reported accurately and on a timely basis in accordance with applicable regulations to senior management and the broker-dealer regulators. The position requires regular contact with management; business unit heads and financial and operating staff in other areas to keep abreast of financial reporting issues analyze fluctuations in results and coordinate the receipt of financial information needed for reporting. The position requires strong organizational, communication and analytical skills as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks at once and work effectively under very tight deadlines on a regular basis. The position does not have any direct reports at the current time. However, oversight of others in the department and throughout the Corporation who provide assistance to NatCity Finance's functions is required.
