John Deere Agricultural Equipment is seeking a Staff Engineer - Design Analysis to be a technical expert to lead development and application of the computer analysis tools (tool used in virtual Accelerated Design Verification (VADV)) and models in the combine engineering center. Virtual verification of combine design is growing in importance as we strive to develop new products in less time and at higher quality levels. In this position, you will: Work with other experts in design analysis as it relates to off-road vehicle structures within John Deere, and key analysis tool suppliers. Establish technical direction for a team of analysis engineers at the Worldwide Product Development Center. Lead development of virtual ADV and other related analysis techniques within the combine division. This work will impact all units manufacturing combines. Develop a multi-year plan for development of virtual ADV for combines outlining the major steps of the development process. Conduct the analysis required in key areas, such as techniques to provide fatigue life estimates. Work with design engineers to solve critical structural problems within the combine. Maintain knowledge of various analysis tools used in industry and develop their application to combine design. Assist the analysis team leader in establishing team goals and budgets. Education Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering field or 9+ years of equivalent experience. Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering field strongly desired. Required Skills and Experience Expert in design analysis as it relates to off-road vehicle structures. 8+ years of experience with vehicle structural analysis using Abaqus and Hypermesh. 8+ years of experience working with fatigue life of large vehicle structures. Proven technical leadership in structural analysis applications. Ability to work with a team of structural analysis engineers, functioning as the technical expert. Ability to develop design direction of large, complicated structures based on structural analysis. Desired Skills and Experience Significant experience with lab / field testing of vehicle structures. Experience coordinating multiple projects across several international engineering groups. Project management skills. High level of interpersonal skills needed to work with others and influence their work.
