Yes Date Posted 08/01/2008 Closing Date (Things you should know about closing dates) 10/15/2008 Position Description Boeing Training Systems and Services (TSS), located in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a highly-motivated systems engineer to build and lead the Distributed Training Competency within the TSS Technology Center. The competency vision is to be the focus for distributed training activities within TSS, including supporting the capture of new business, proposing and implementing designs, and deploying solutions. Activities will encompass all aspects of distributed training, including device interoperability, distributed mission planning, and multi-site mission brief and debrief. Implementations will be compatible with existing interoperability standards (such as Distributed Interactive Simulation [DIS] and High Level Architecture [HLA]) and service standards (such as the United States Air Force Distributed Mission Operations [DMO] and Navy Aviation Simulation Master Plan [NASMP]) or may define new methods as dictated by customer needs. The candidate will work closely with TSS Business Development and the Technology Center's Chief Technologist to define competency roadmaps. The successful candidate with also work with established TSS programs to capture and coordinate existing approaches and determine evolution paths. The candidate will have primary responsibility, authority, and accountability for determining the technical approach (including verification of design appropriateness and applicability), cost, schedule and technical performance, including risk, issue, and opportunity management for TSS Distributed Training efforts. The candidate will direct the day-to-day activities of a Distributed Training team, which will include producing project plans, system performance specifications, statements of work, and concepts of operation; preparing designs for wide area networks; presenting designs at peer reviews and customer reviews; coordinating with electrical and mechanical design, communication security (COMSEC), Supplier Management and Procurement (SM&P), manufacturing, and logistics teammates; and working with programs on systems integration, formal test, site installation, and customer testing tasks. The team will be responsible for the hardware, software, and connectivity aspects of the solution and will serve as subject matter experts for new business campaigns and solution deployments. Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads analyses for safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information The candidate requires strong process-oriented systems engineering skills and a good understanding of distributed simulation concepts. Working experience with DIS and HLA and with existing distributed training implementations is highly desired. Experience with DOORS (requirements management), communication security (COMSEC), and Information Assurance is a plus.
