The Transmission & Distribution Hardware design engineering team is responsible for the design and technical support of the Transmission & Design product lines for Automation, Meters, Monitoring and Diagnostics, and Power Products. This hardware engineer position is responsible for performing mechanical engineering design tasks and technical support for the Meters product line.

* Develop mechanical and/or packaging conceptual designs and detailed designs in accordance with established engineering processes, submit design packages for reviews, and update the designs as required as a result from reviews.

* Support the sourcing, manufacturing, and validation teams during prototype, production, validation and field issue resolution activities.

* Evaluate designs and materials for use in designs and makes recommendations.

* Create and review functional / performance / compliance test plans and procedures to ensure adherence to requirements.

* Provide technical guidance to engineers across multiple locations.

* Communicate technical information and designs to stakeholders in clear, concise and accurate manner.

* Create manufacturing documentation such as BOMs, change orders, control records, and manufacturing test specifications.

* Recommend changes to existing designs and processes to improve the quality of products and effectiveness of processes.

* Perform heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation) analysis.

* Carry out design analysis for manufacturability, reliability and maintainability.

* Execute design to cost analysis and tradeoffs for high volume products.

* Perform FEMA on components, designs, and products.

* Adhere to established design processes, standards and design practices.

* Use automated design-drawing tools for design tasks (Pro-Engineer).

* Perform / validate mechanical stress analysis.

* Perform mechanical tolerance analysis.
Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

* Minimum of 10 years of experience of mechanical design experience.
Desired

* Solid understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (EMC, Electrical safety, CE, RoHS and other in-country regulations test requirements).

* Master's in Mechanical Engineering.

* Experience with the design of metering products.

* Knowledge / experience with manufacturing, design for manufacturability, metal tooling and plastic mold processes.

* Experience in working with suppliers of equipment, services and products in the metering field.

* Experience with metering AMR technologies.

* Ability to energize, develop, and build rapport at all levels within an organization.

* Strong interpersonal skills, tenacity and patience to develop long-term customer relationships.

* Organized, ability to multi-task and stay organized.

* High energy, self-starter, with a proven track record in delivering results.

* Black Belt / Green Belt Certified.

* Strong critical thinking / problem solving skills.

* Demonstrated ability to guide multiple parts of a matrixed organization to the achievement of one vision.
