SageWalk's wilderness program offers a powerful and significant approach to help teens overcome emotional and behavioral problems. Our mission is to resolve family conflict in order to reunite families that have been torn apart by the behavioral problems of a troubled child. By offering committed, professional services that challenge boys and girls ages 13-17 emotionally, academically, and physically we help troubled teens understand the causes of low self esteem, learn to overcome behavioral problems, and return home with respect and cooperation as the goal, instead of conflict and strife. We use our family conflict theory as the basis of reaching this goal. At SageWalk, we have developed a "cutting edge" set of courses designed to pace each student's progress through the program, while addressing prominent issues that impede normal adolescent development and emotional growth at school. We are currently looking for a Wilderness Field Director that will be responsible for safety, field training, group placement and supervision of our field staff for our Outdoor Therapy Program. Job Responsibilities: Responsible for field safety, field training, group placement, and supervision of field staff for an Outdoor Therapy Program. Works with land management associations and has knowledge of relevant state regulations and licensing standards. Coordinates wilderness operations including, staff scheduling, quality assurance, site selections, field safety, policies and procedures applicable to wilderness operations. Responsible for recruitment, professional development, assignment of duties, approval of leaves and expense requests, performance management and personnel actions, and serving as a resource for consultation and advice for support and professional staff. Communicates regularly with representatives from admissions with regards to student placement and program status. Attends scheduled training and /or conferences when necessary. Supervises field staff and ensures compliance with company and state land-use regulations Ensures safety and the whereabouts of clients. Ensures field instructors are providing appropriate teaching moments and expanding the knowledge of clients. Interacts with supervisory staff to determine proper student placement. Compensation will commensurate depending on experience. Requirements: Education or Equivalent Experience Must be at least 25 years of age. Bachelors degree in a related field. Must be at least 25 years of ageBachelors degree in a related field. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Wilderness Emergency Medical Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR). Must have had Positive Control Systems (PCS) training in the past 12 months. Valid driver's license also required. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Fours years experience in adventure/wilderness programs to include two to three years of experience supervising field staff. Working knowledge of relevant regulations and licensing standards required. Must be mature, patient, stressful/crisis situations and display strong communication and leadership skills.
