Yes Date Posted 08/06/2008 Closing Date (Things you should know about closing dates) 10/06/2008 Position Description The Concurrent Test, Training and Operations (CTTO) Software Integrated Development Environment (IDE) lab software engineer has overall responsibility to ensure that the development and integration staff has the required tools and processes in place to develop, test and demonstrate the CTTO system. High level responsibilities include: CTTO IDE architect and implementation manager responsible for defining and implementing the IDE across a geographically distributed development environment; provide overall Java and distributed systems expertise and guidance; research new technology and tools and determine their applicability to the CTTO environment; oversee the incorporation and integration of selected tools into the CTTO environment; perform periodic upgrades and maintenance on the toolset; act as a trainer and mentor for CTTO developers, and respond to developer questions and concerns; act as an overall toolsmith and tool finder and help automate the collection of development metrics from the toolset; become the CTTO Agile Development and FOSS Evangelist/Defender. Responsible for Day-to-day operations of the lab including, but not limited to the following: ensuring security updates and patches are current; completing and documenting all required security audits; configuring workstations and servers to meet security requirements; creating and maintaining server configuration documentation; adding, maintaining and deleting user accounts and security groups; managing and maintaining interfaces between systems; managing and maintaining network switches, routers, and firewalls; monitoring server capacity such as, Disk space, CPU utilization, and available memory; managing and maintaining servers, to include performance tuning; managing and maintaining data storage; managing all IT resources within the lab environment, to include software licenses; installing, managing and maintaining and configuring server based applications; contacting and managing third party suppliers, ensuring deliveries match orders, maintaining support contracts and placing support calls; developing and maintaining an up-to-date library of product releases, service packs, hotfixes, patches, etc.; installation and maintenance of all lab equipment including troubleshooting of faulty equipment (hardware and software); responding to any issues/queries regarding resource utilization and configuration of test environments as requested by the technical population. The following technical skills are required: Java development experience; hands on experience with Software Development tools, Collaboration tools, and Configuration Management tools such as Eclipse, ClearCase, CruiseControl, Ant, Junit, Spring, and Moin Moin Wiki; experience evaluating different toolsets and providing recommendations for use; experience on Windows, Linux and VMware platforms and system administration, along with accompanying hardware knowledge associated with these operating systems and network interfaces; experience with Unix scripting utilizing tools such as AWK, sed, grep, ksh; working knowledge of DNS, LDAP and Active Directory configuration and maintenance; installation and rollout of servers including confidence in disk imaging/recovery technologies; 2-D drawing packages such as Visio. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment providing coordination of activities within the Software Development organization as well as between organizations. The candidate must be a self starter who is able to initiate research and evaluate new software development tools, processes and procedures. Technical [ + ] Host Environment Extensive, specialized knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems and networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components. [ + ] Languages & Databases Extensive, specialized knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and assembly languages. [ + ] Software Development Tools Extensive, specialized knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools. Education and/or Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Position requires US Citizenship.
