Sr. Operations Engineer - Neon/TCS
Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Information Solutions Group has a challenging opportunity to build and support Business Intelligence systems used for forecasting, building, ordering, shipping, and billing for Microsoft software and hardware products including Xbox, Zune, and Surface. Supported systems interface with partner systems via EDI, Biztalk, IDOC, XML & Web Services. These applications are mission critical and offer opportunities for application supportability improvements and performance optimization. We are looking for an IT professional with considerable IT systems support experience to help us with this challenge.
As a member of the E&D IS team, you'll drive the supportability and manageability of our customer-facing applications, guiding the product team through the release and deployment phase and help ensure the readiness of our Production Support team. You will interact with program and solutions management, development, and test to ensure we deliver quality applications that meet our customer requirements. You'll play a key role throughout the product development cycle, collaborating on designs, features, and driving quality requirements and ensuring the product is ready for a high-availability production environment. You'll design, develop and own appropriate monitoring solutions and provide Tier 3 Production Support.
Qualifications Include:
To qualify for this position, you must possess strong communication, organizational, and technical writing skills. You must function well in a fast-paced collaborative environment and be able to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to complex production environment scenarios to ensure high availability. You will be able to demonstrate your strong troubleshooting and analytical skills through architecture and design discussions across technologies, through critical escalation support, and by mentoring others in your ownership area.
Requirements Include:
- A minimum of 3 to 4 years of database-related experience in a production environment
o Strong database related skills in SQL Server 2005, including OLAP, performance tuning, failover technologies and strategies
o Experience designing schemas
o SQL Administration including performance tuning and data analysis
o T-SQL stored procedure development, analysis, and troubleshooting
o Database implementation, db internals
- You should be proficient with one or more of the following programming languages: C, C#, T-SQL
- Ability to analyze live-site issues quickly and possess a thorough understanding of client/server architectures and high-availability clustered environments
- Prior practical experience with change control, source control, disaster recovery and backup strategies required
- You must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a critical thinker, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- 2 + years Production Support experience managing enterprise application
- Thorough understanding of service management foundations such as ITIL or MOF
- Outstanding customer service/focus skills
- Demonstrated ability to define and follow best practices and business processes.
- Knowledge of clustering; including NLB and SQL clusters is a plus
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, Systems Management Server (SMS), Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), SharePoint tools, .Net Framework desired.
