Primary responsibilities: Plan and conduct user research for Surface applications and tools The candidate will work closely with the product teams to drive user research findings into the revolutionary Surface interface. You will have the opportunity learn and use a wide variety of research methods in a collaborative, supportive, high performance team. You will be designing, executing, and evangelizing research results into the Surface product development effort. You will join a small and growing team in the Surface which is pioneering new and impactful research methods. The candidate will be responsible for gathering and interpreting data from lab studies, surveys, instrumentation and usage logs. The candidate must communicate the results to the team and provide recommendations and ongoing design consultation.
Additional responsibilities: Develop long-term user research plans and schedules. Evaluate applications and "mini applications which use new technologies such as gesture and object recognition. Collaborate with the engineering, UX, and marketing teams to produce the best research for Surface.
Qualifications: Candidates should have an advanced degree in at least one of the following fields: experimental psychology (experimental, social, cognitive, etc), human computer interaction, human factors, computer science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Required skills: Candidates must be knowledgeable in research design, fluent in a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and be able to quickly and effectively analyze and present data to influence product design and implementation. These methodologies should include a subset of the following: discount and RITE usability studies, field studies, questionnaire development and survey research, usage log analysis, competitive benchmarking, field research methods, human factors methods, or a reasonable equivalent to some of the above. .
