Responsible for the design and development of the electronic assemblies, chassis, housings, racks, panels and line-ups for power plant I&C digital and analog instrumentation, both Safety & Non-Safety Related.

Interface with drafting designers and check their output. Develop mechanical drawings, specifications, and documentation.

Develop design for mechanical assemblies to house electronic products, such as chassis, chassis front panel, chassis connector plates, and cable routing.

Panel design including the placement of 19" racks chassis in the panel to account for heat transfer and seismic consideration. Mounting of these chassis in the panel using appropriate hardware (rails, channels, screws, etc.) to maintain seismic qualification of the panel.

Design piece part and sub-assembly drawings including purchase parts to support panel design.

Develop wiring diagrams and cable drawings (including fiber cables) for interfaces to terminal boards or fiber connections for customer side connections.

Support manufacturing activities.

Redesign of legacy electronic hardware, parts equivalency.

Instrument chassis development including graphic panel displays, chassis schematics, assembly drawings and parts lists, wire lists, and change documents.

Support instrument safety and CE qualification.

Interface with vendors and suppliers.
Qualifications

BSEE, BSME, or BS Industrial Engineering degree.

7+ years of experience in electronic instrument design and product development.

5+ years of experience in instrument chassis and housing design.

Six-Sigma Green Belt training (GE employees only).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel occasionally as required.
Desired

Fiber optic cable design.

RoHS directive experience.

Experience with commercial instrument chassis (VME, PCI, VXI etc). DIN rail mounted instrumentation, and DIN mounting hardware including the different types of terminal boards.

Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles.

Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to work with technicians in developing prototypes, test fixtures, production test instructions.

Excellent writing abilities for requirements specs, test and licensing reports.

Strong communication and planning skills.

Familiarity with environmental and seismic qualification.

Familiar with IEEE 383, 344, and 603.

Experience with several of the following instrument mechanical design disciplines: graphic touch panels, metal castings, sheet metal parts, metal stampings, interconnects, electro-mechanical parts and RF shielding.

Experienced in the use of AutoCad 2 and 3D modeling, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas. General
