Position Description
Workers in this position clean, seal, close and test integral fuel tanks on aircraft per drawings and specifications. They may also seal exterior wing surfaces and perform assembly work, as required. This position will require working in confined spaces of the wing fuel cells and crawling through an opening 17.75"" X 10.00"" in order to get inside the fuel cell. Employment in this position also requires lifting less than 10 pounds, rotation of head/neck, bending and twisting at the waist, walking, crawling, crouching, lying down, standing, kneeling, reaching, climbing/balancing, flexion/extension, contact with sealants and solvents, exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes, hand/arm, and ears. Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities Obtain and read applicable drawings to determine area to be worked. Obtain necessary sealant, solvent, cleaners, and wipers from hazardous material crib or shop storage area. Install necessary ventilation equipment to supply fresh air in work cavity. Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., scissors lifts, elevated work platforms). Clean tank surfaces using solvents or detergents and water. Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment while performing work. Clean and adjust seal equipment and insure the equipment is functioning properly. Apply seal and/or topcoat including fillet seal to system components, bushings, fittings that penetrate fuel cells, and tubing ground straps, sealing heads and collars of fasteners. Apply corrosion preventative seal. Prior to tank closure repair any damaged or incomplete seal, damaged tubing or other system components. Remove all debris and prepare area for inspection. Apply wing station identification numbers on tank doors using stencils and spray paint and required protective coating prior to closing tank. Install fuel tank closure panels or access doors and fuel quantity measuring stick after all necessary steps are complete and accepted by QA and customer. Perform/assist with leak tests on fuel tanks and test fuel vent systems. Submit completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence for acceptance or rejection. Apply aerodynamic seal to skin gaps on leading edge and trailing edge panel gaps. Position tool for locating vortex generators on upper panel and apply faying surface seal to base of generator and position on wing per tool. Perform rework as required per Pick Up, Special Repair, Rejection Tag, Non-Conformance Record, or other authorized instructions. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner (e.g., solvents, thinners, and primers.)

Competencies

Read and interpret engineering drawings. Capable of visualizing a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view, converting left-hand to right-hand views and understanding symbols, flag notes, and general notes.
Skilled in the selection, set-up and operation of the appropriate tool(s) for a given type of work.
Think before acting,"" (e.g., anticipate outcome of an action, know if something looks wrong) and ask questions when necessary.
Understand the application of technical documents/information such as BAC specifications, manufacturing plans and safety information.
Use math that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions.
Use various types of hand tools and/or hand-held power tools.
Use various types of precision measuring tools.
Work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, assisting others in completion of tasks; possess interpersonal, listening, and participation skills.

Education and/or Experience
High school graduate or GED preferred.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement. Position will require working in confined spaces of the wing fuel cells and crawling through an opening 17.75"" X 10.00"". Resumes of current Puget Sound Boeing employees submitted via BESS will not be considered.
