Located a short distance from Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom Metros, The Association of American Medical Colleges ( [link removed] ) is the most highly-regarded 132-year old nonprofit organization representing all accredited medical schools in the United States and Canada, nearly 400 major teaching hospitals and health systems, including 68 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, and medical academic and professional societies.
We are expanding, and currently seek the following new addition to our expanding IT Team:
Network Security Specialist
Reporting to the Director, and working in conjunction with system administrators, network engineers, and support desk staff, the Network Security Specialist is responsible for security event monitoring, vulnerability analysis, and assisting with incident response.

Monitor infrastructure security including events, logs, and reports from intrusion prevention/detection
systems (IPS/IDS), firewalls, routers, switches, and other network devices, Linux and Windows servers, Windows desktops, Oracle and MS SQL databases, anti-virus, and other monitored systems
Interpret security event activity; identify security vulnerabilities; initiate incident response when applicable
Manage configuration of AAMC security information and event management system (SIM/SEMS) and IPS/IDS
Conduct IT infrastructure vulnerability assessments and compliance audits, and specify remediation plans Qualifications
2-4 years of prior information technology experience with a concentration of that experience in a security related capacity, including sys admin or network engineering
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related discipline required
Professional security certifications a plus
Hands-on experience with Nessus or other network vulnerability scanner
Familiar with risk analysis/network vulnerability assessment methodologies and countermeasures
Internet protocol knowledge required, including TCP/IP and basic packet analysis
Knowledge of SIM/SEMS. Hands-on experience with RSA enVision a plus
Knowledge of IPS/IDS. Hands-on experience with Cisco IDS/IPS sensors a plus
Knowledge of hosting platforms a plus including IIS/Windows, Apache/Tomcat/Linux, and WebSphere
