TheCommunications Specialist will be responsible for: Web content development and communications for AspiringDocs.org, a campaign to increase diversity in medicine. This includes refreshing content; working with the AspiringDocs.org team to develop interactive components of the Web site; and working with the Campaign Coordinator to notify the Web contractor about posting refreshed features and designing new ones. Other responsibilities include researching and coordinating campaign advertising buys and options; identifying opportunities to extend the reach of the site; working with media relations staff to generate campaign coverage; and assisting in the development of reports, PowerPoint presentations, and scripts about the campaign's purpose and effectiveness; and, writing and coordinating the distribution of e-mails regarding Aspiringdocs.org.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree with 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience should include: working directly with college-age students from low-income, disadvantaged, and underrepresented populations; developing and writing materials for the Web targeted to college-age students and educators that support diversity in higher education; preparing other student-oriented informational materials; and working in a fast-paced PR setting such as a PR firm or on a PR campaign for an association or higher educational institution. Candidates should possess knowledge about and commitment to equity in education and health care; knowledge of how to prepare materials designed for the Web; strong writing and communication skills; excellent teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to effectively collaborate internally and externally; and excellent knowledge of MS Office applications. Knowledge of Web applications and design preferred.
