Position Description
Primary focal point for the management of insurance related litigation and claims made against the Company with respect to environmental/pollution liabilities, asbestos bodily injury (involving premises and products), and other toxic tort matters. The candidate will also be responsible for handling other complex claims, such as directors & officers and nuclear liability, and be the claims leader responsible for insurance company insolvencies. Primary responsibilities will include direct case management, direction of outside counsel, settlement evaluation and negotiation, litigation strategy planning and general responsibility for ensuring the effective and efficient processing of insurance related claims from inception to disposition. The individual will also be responsible for conducting internal investigations of potential claims and making liability and insurance coverage determinations. Candidate will be responsible for providing insurance coverage advice and counsel to internal stakeholders.

Education and/or Experience

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and must be in good standing with at least one state bar. 8-10 years experience required at a law firm, insurance company or risk management department with direct involvement in managing claims or cases from inception to resolution. Previous litigation and trial experience is required. Candidates must have extensive, detailed knowledge of insurance coverage issues involving complex insurance programs. Must possess good business acumen and proven track record working with insurance companies, brokers, and counsel. Candidates must have the ability to achieve long-term goals, consistently meet short and long-term deadlines, and be flexible, decisive and creative. Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication, negotiation/compromise and teamwork are required.
