Consumer Mobile Experiences: Music and Video
Mobile phones are the world's fastest growing computing platform, and global sales of smart phones have already outpaced consumer PC sales. These rich, mobile computing devices have also become the next hot target for developers and service companies as they look to grow their reach to new devices and enable new consumer experiences.
Unlike the PC space, market leadership in mobility is up for grabs. The traditional mobile incumbents are making a strong offering. Microsoft has invested deeply for five years and built a strong product with Windows Mobile, and more and more mobile applications and services are coming online across the company.
This Senior Product Planner role will be responsible for helping Microsoft lead in consumer mobility by defining our strategy and roadmap for music and video.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Define consumer requirements for an end-to-end music and video experience. Define these for today's market, evaluate future needs to enable us to influence and lead the market
Partner with MCB UX and engineering teams to turn these requirements into end-to-end experience prototypes and specifications
Lead and coordinate Microsoft's mobile consumer experiences across MCB, Microsoft and 3rd parties.
Creation of our end-to-end value proposition by experience area
Accountability to drive product development roadmap for music and video experiences in conjunction with the Music and Video product manager and GPMs to ensure delivery of premium experiences
Lead development of and management of consumer research plan for your area
Budget tracking/management for areas of responsibility
Qualifications:
Minimum of 6-8 years demonstrated work experience in consumer product planning in a high tech, software, or mobile industry. Previous mobile experience is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of consumer insights, segmentation, and positioning
Strong understanding of Microsoft products and services
MBA or advanced degree preferred
A successful candidate will have:
Ability to conceptualize and execute on strategy and consumer value propositions
Ability to take effective action without having to know the total picture
Ability to effectively collaborate with supporting GPMs and organizations to drive comprehensive experiences
Strong strategic leadership and communications abilities
Experience presenting to Sr. Level executives (GM+)
Bold and decisive in actions yet collaborative in working approach
Ability to lead matrixed teams and drive accountability on dependencies across the organization
Flexibility and the ability to work in an environment that reflects diverse work styles
The willingness to learn new technologies to explore a variety of solutions to help the team get the job done
Almost every Microsoft job description says "come change the world...." This job is a bit more focused. The right candidate for this role has the chance to prove that Windows Mobile is not just a great OS for businesses but also for consumers. To prove this with music and video experiences. To catch up with and accelerate past our competitors. And to ship Microsoft software on more phones than we do PCs. Let's change how people think about mobility, Microsoft, and entertainment. Changing the world will follow.
