John Deere Power Systems is seeking an Engineer to manage support of the activities in a Product Engineering Center engine performance and emissions dyno. In this position, you will:
Create a test plan that will evaluate the engine appropriately.
Interact with test cell operators and lab supervisors to accomplish tasks and work through obstacles.
Review data to confirm accuracy before resources are spent on creation of a large quantity of inaccurate information.
Monitor development activities being watchful for expected results, adapt to changes in a timely and efficient manner.
Independently analyze data, create and present summary and bring recommended conclusion or course of action in a timely fashion.
Timely documentation of results and conclusions.
Ability to take on responsibilities in the following areas beyond test cell support: Providing communication with Engine Controls team, Base Engine and Aftertreatment, and Applications Engineering when appropriate.
Contribute to component development (fuel system, turbo, etc.) including specification development and supplier interaction.
Support and guidance for vehicle testing and interaction with application engineers.
Contribute to discussion of potential concepts to meet future emissions regulations.
Mentoring others in the team, assume training responsibilities when necessary.
Education
Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Required Skills and Experience
Experience in engine analysis, design, and/or development.
Must be able to demonstrate leadership in continuous refinement and improvement of calibration methods and procedures.
Must be able to demonstrate logical troubleshooting techniques.
Good communication skills.
Data analysis and decision making.
Organization and time management skills to accomplish these activities while supporting test cell activities.
High quality results and attention to detail are expected in this position.
Desired Skills and Experience
Understanding of general diesel engine design and performance.
Competency running an experimental engine development test cell preferred.
