Position Description
The Huntsville Design Center (HDC) consists of various engineering disciplines that support local requirements and other divisions within the Boeing Company. The HDC currently supports several Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) and Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) programs as a virtual design center and continues to foster relationships to grow the business. The HDC works in a fast paced engineering design environment where demonstration of the six Boeing leadership attributes is paramount. The HDC Senior Manager has responsibility, accountability, and authority for all program operations. This position is responsible for building relationships with customers and ensuring their satisfaction, developing actionable plans and instilling a sense of purpose, and communicating with HDC employees, Boeing management, and external customers. The HDC Senior Manager is responsible for continuing to build a highly successful team that is customer focused, technically savvy, and results driven. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting program deliverables. Manages employees and mid-level managers performing activities within multiple (2 or more) Engineering disciplines. Develops and executes integrated organizational plans, policies and procedures and guides the development of business and technical strategies, goals, objectives. Acquires resources for organizational activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Manages, develops and motivates employees and mid-level managers. Preferred: Previous experience in an engineering design environment, and previous leadership of multi-skilled engineering teams. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and cooperate with people in geographically dispersed areas. Demonstrated ability to use processes and tools to blend people from different skill areas and geographic locations into effective teams. Preferred: Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 20 years experience or either a Master's degree with 18 years experience or a PhD degree with 14 years experience.
