Our Client is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to build, lead and motivate a high-performance engineering development team responsible for designing and bringing new software to market.
The Director will work collaboratively with product management, sales and other cross-functional stakeholders, and will also define and align team and business priorities.
The ideal candidate brings a track record of success in a similar role, strong interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude.
Essential Job Functions
Technical
-Lead and manage entire software development life cycle of large scale, distributed, multi-threaded web services applications utilizing object oriented methodologies and techniques.
-Lead software development activities such as software design, development, unit testing, documentation, integration testing , deployment documentation, design and code reviews, adherence to software development standards
-Estimate software engineering efforts, prepare and execute software development project schedules
-Implementation of test drivers to thoroughly unit test applications
-Participate in reviewing and/or defining product requirements
Managerial
-Manage multiple teams (local and remote)
-Allocate accountability among technical staff
-Manage career development of technical staff
-Interact with other product managers, project managers, QA, hardware and firmware teams, support team and operations to coordinate product rollout, refine development process, and understand dependencies
Required Experience/Skills:
-Demonstrated ability to manage/supervise software development teams
-Strong leadership and communication skills
-Demonstrated experience building distributed, low cost, highly scalable, and highly available enterprise server systems in hosted environment.
-Expert in .Net, C#/C++, SQL server technologies
-Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization techniques, and object-oriented programming
-Structured thinker, Effective communicator
-Expert in software design, development and deployments
-Demonstrated experience with web services and socket (TCP/IP, UDP) programming
In addition the following Skills and Experience are strongly preferred:
-Experience working on systems handling large web based services for Microsoft/Yahoo/Google/MapQuest/MapInfo or MRM firm processing high frequency GPS data
-Experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, statistical analysis
-Experience with Databases, data mining, and storage systems
-MS in Comp Science or equivalent with 10+ years experience or9
-Ph.D. in Comp Science with 8+ years of industry experience
