Are you interested in working on a product that will radically change the way people interact with technology? Does the idea of blurring the lines between the physical and virtual worlds excite you? Would you like to make computing interaction richer, faster, and more enjoyable? The Microsoft Surface team is creating an innovative platform that has sparked excitement in our company, our partners, and the computer industry. We are seeking a talented, highly motivated individual with rock-solid program management skills and a history of shipping commercial hardware or software products. If you have the skills to solve tough technical issues and a passion for delivering world-class products then join us and be a part of Microsoft's groundbreaking product: Microsoft Surface! RESPONSIBILITIES This high-profile individual contributor role will work with the hardware test team, hardware assurance team, manufacturing partner teams, operations team, quality assurance team and reliability team to coordinate and focus their efforts in the test, manufacture, lifecycle tracking and field support of the Surface product. While this role is not the classic Microsoft "feature PM", it is nonetheless a highly technical role in the management of complex electrical, optical and mechanical systems. In this role you will work to close the loop from the completion of product design, through the bringing-up of manufacturing; monitoring of its performance of the product in the field; resolving design issues and supporting product enhancements through its lifecycle; and bringing the resulting knowledge and product experience back into the design of the next product cycle. You will work closely with electrical, optical and mechanical test engineers, hardware testing companies, operations and manufacturing engineers and field support teams. If you're a program manager yearning to get back to a role with a significant engineering component, then this is the role for you. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 10 years as a program manager or equivalent industry experience supporting commercial hardware or software products. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent communications skills, including written and verbal communications. Demonstrated leadership in working through complex problems or ill-defined requirements, including strong skills in technical analysis and problem solving in a creative and open-minded manner. Experience working and/or managing with development and manufacturing partners as part of the overall project team is a plus. Working knowledge of electrical, optical and mechanical systems is also a plus. Ability to travel approximately 10% - 20% annually (possible four or more 1-week trips internationally a year). EDUCATION BS degree in an engineering discipline or one of the physical sciences; an advanced degree is a definite plus.
