The Surface product management team is growing fast and we are looking for seasoned product managers with a solid expertise and experience and of course with a lot of fun, energy, and passion!
The Surface business team was initially focused in the Leisure & Entertainment and Retail space; we will be widening our horizon and will be looking at other opportunities in a very near future in order to scale the business.
The product manager will be leading a virtual team of cross-function stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the products: business plan and value proposition, market requirements documents, product development, product deployment, product maintenance & support. This particular position will focus on the following areas:
- Surface Platform
- Surface Shell
- Surface SDK (Software Development Kit)
At each phase of the product's lifecycle, the product manager will be driving the process to define the above areas as well as provide support and prioritization when tradeoffs have to be made.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Help define clear platform roadmap based on overall business strategy and customer requirements;
- Help define SDK roadmap based on overall business strategy and customer requirements;
- Define a prioritized list of features and help make tradeoffs when needed;
- Responsible for proactive and effective communication with the rest of the Surface team in particular with business development managers; accounts team members; and product development team members;
- Liaison effectively with other Microsoft teams (Windows, Windows Embedded, Visual Studio, MSR) and create strategy and roadmap alignment on platform dependencies
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Solid technical understanding of products with the ability to communicate to both the general populous and to the technical community. Effective communication skills;
- Ability to deal with ambiguity as well as the ability to build consensus around prioritization and tradeoffs will be critical in this role;
- Demonstrated experiences in product management for software platforms and/or software development kits is critical;
- Demonstrated experiences in product management for hardware based products is helpful;
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in throughout complete products lifecycles is a must;
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-group and virtual team environments within Microsoft;
- 5+ years work experience in product management.
You must have great product management management skills. You must have the ability to create influence and build consensus throughout various functional teams.
