POSITION SUMMARY:
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter is seeking an Executive Vice President. This position is the agency's second ranking administrative officer, reporting to the Chapter President and responsible for all aspects of Chapter operations.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the world's oldest and largest voluntary health nonprofit. The Minnesota Chapter is a leading chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The Executive Vice President will guide, direct and supervise operations within the Minnesota Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in order to meet annual budget and operational goals, support the activities of the staff, and ensure long term success. Responsible for Development - Special Events Department; Communications & Marketing Department; Finance Department; Volunteer/HR/Admin Department; and Information Systems Department.
Position works with employees at all levels within the chapter and within the national organization and performs high level administrative duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee Programs Department. Oversee the areas of programs development and implementation, client support services, professional education, clinic affiliations, community grant program, caregiver and teen programs, risk management and others. Ensure the planning, development, implementation and evaluation process of chapter programs. Oversee the chapter's relationships with professionals at neurological clinics, researchers, donors/supporters and others in the health care field.
2. Oversee Volunteer/Human Resource/Administration Department. Meets chapter's staffing needs. Oversee annual performance review process. Oversee compensation and benefits programs for the chapter. Oversee all aspects of the chapter's risk management program. Direct a unified chapter effort to recruit, train, and retain volunteers for various chapter initiatives.
3. Oversee Development - Special Event activities. Monitor performance to budget and plan of operations. Take action necessary to meet budget goals. Oversee relationship building with top special event participants, team captains, and fundraising clubs and develop strategies to retain them and move them to higher levels of fundraising. Ensure corporate sponsors and teams increase involvement and have a positive special event experience.
4. Oversee Communications and Marketing Department. Responsible for the development, planning and implementation of the chapter's public education, marketing and communication strategies. Oversee all media outreach, crisis communications, chapter web site and online activities. Oversee the publishing of chapter materials.
5. Oversee Finance Department. Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting. Lead the chapter's overall annual budgeting process and development of Plan of Operations, ensure accurate forecasting chapter wide, measurement against plans and annual end-of-year-report against chapter Plan of Operation. Oversee the annual audit process and other external or home office audits as needed. Oversee management of chapter's investments. Ensure proper cash flow for chapter operations. Responsible for the security and integrity of all aspects of the chapter's cash and inventory. Ensure that internal controls are in place and being followed.
6. Oversee Information Systems Department. Ensure integrity of data management. Oversee chapter disaster recovery system, ensure the security of chapter data. Stay current on technology, web trends, and home office centralized services. Provide technology infrastructure necessary to support all chapter operations. Accountable for developing, communicating and enforcing computer equipment, IT and data management policies. Responsible for inventory.
7. Provide Chapter Leadership. Ensure that departments work productively with other departments. Bring appropriate issues to vice presidents and chapter president for discussion. Staff Audit and Finance and other committees. Interact positively with the Chapter Board. Assist in policy development. Act in place of the president when she is not available. Facilitate problem solving and communication chapter wide. Arrange and manage chapter contracts with vendors as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
1. BA or BS in any related field, advanced degree a plus.
2. Minimum of 10 years experience in administration/management, having managed multiple departments.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute agency-wide strategic plans, annual plans of operations, budgets, and deliver performance of assigned departments against goals.
4. Ability to manage and motivate groups, both internally and externally.
5. Ability to work well with volunteers, staff and a variety of constituents is essential.
6. Superb verbal, written and communication skills and diplomacy. Excellent negotiation skills. Computer abilities.
7. Ability to quickly build credibility within and outside of the organization and make an immediate contribution to accomplishing key priorities.
8. Self-starter, motivated individual who can deliver on goals independently.
9. Creative and energetic individual who functions well within a fast-paced, team environment, which includes cross-department collaboration.
10. Experience working in a nonprofit environment is preferable. A leadership style that promotes communication and innovation; a collaborative approach focused on outcomes; a creative approach to problem solving; the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences, and ability to craft options to meet ever changing conditions.
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to effectively operate MS Society hardware and software computer systems including the Internet, PC and e-mail. Must also be able to operate MS Society office systems including the telephone system, fax machine, copier, and security system.
2. Must be able to move and climb as required to find warehouse materials, file materials, write and type. Must be able to operate warehouse equipment and access locations where facilities management equipment is located.
3. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a car. Must be able to provide own transportation to various programs, events and meetings.
4. The position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, to travel by plane and other forms of public transportation, stay at a work event overnight, including weekends.
