Microsoft E&D is driving the development of new hardware solution that brings new and exciting experiences to the user. The Manufacturing and Supply Chain Quality organization is supporting this objective by providing effective Failure Analysis solutions that meets the needs of the business and drive improvements back into the product development group in addition to driving continuous improvement along the complete supply chain.
This role will be responsible for the development and implementation of an FA strategy that engages and direct the FA activity associated with integration failures on E&D hardware products including Surface, Xbox, Zune and PC hardware. In addition this role will be responsible for engaging with sub system suppliers to create the right engagement on Failure Analysis that is performed at the supplier level which results in actionable information that drives change. In addition, responsibility will include assessment of vendor and external Failure Analysis capabilities and then working with these external groups on maintaining/improving their capability to meet the needs of Microsoft. He/She will be required to integrate this activity into the overall analytical support structure and provide leadership and guidance to the external FA groups. He/she will be required to interface with the Material organization and strongly interact with the supplier quality engineering function as part of engaging external suppliers/vendors.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience working with suppliers in a technical capacity. He/She must have demonstrated leadership in leading engineering efforts with a strong emphasis on Mechanical and Material Science in support of failure analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required with experience in program leadership being highly desirable.
The successful candidate must be organized and be able to work independently with little direct supervision. BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering is required with 8+ years of related experience in engineering and/or failure analysis functions. The successful candidate will be expected to travel as part of the engagement with different suppliers/venders
